During the fall 2010 and spring 2011 have The Swedish Armed Forces conducted crash tests in cooperation with a test lab in Sweden. The purpose was to study the effect on the human body when personal equipment e.g. combat wests, bulletproof wests and combat helmets are worn. Initially we can say that the kind and configuration of the passive safety systems are central in the consequences of a crash with protected vehicles.
A recommendation can be that if combat equipment is worn except the combat helmet the soldiers have a higher probability to survive in a crash. If the combat helmet is worn the neck tension probably will cause severe injuries. The testing is continued with the effect of an airbag if this reduces the effect with the helmet on. The tests was carried out, with some exceptions, due to the ECE R94 test standard and with a medium heavy armored vehicle as a reference to get the actual crash pulse and to be able to make comparisons.
