UK confirms ECRAF participation

The British Armed Forces will in the years to come continue the active participation in ECRAF.  This was confirmed in a meeting between the President, the Policy Secretary of ECRAF and representatives of the British Armed Forces in London 15th November 2011.

The British Armed Forces looked upon ECRAF as an important meeting place to exchange useful information about road safety in the armed forces and was satisfied with the achieved results for ECRAF.President Oddvar Haagensen says that he is very satisfied with the British decision which was as he expected.

EC meets in Stockholm 25th October

The new ECRAF Executive Committee meets in Stockholm 25th October.

- The most important issue to deal with will be how to roll the existing Strategy- and Activity Plan, says president Oddvar Haagensen.Other main issues on the agenda are minutes from the last meetings in Czech Republic, the next congress in Spain, candidate for congress 2014, statistics and some follow up issues.

Successfull congress in Prague

ECRAF’s 9th congress was successfully arranged in Prague, Czech Republic, 13 – 16th September. President Oddvar Haagensen said at the closing that thanks to the host nation’s excellent arrangements – including the meeting facilities at DAP Hotel, the congress dinner at the castle and the travel to Vyskov - it was a success. The main topic ”Risk assessment and Simulators” was followed by an interesting discusion. A congress report will come and information will later be given at the web.

Outstanding road safety days initiative in Belgium

President Oddvar Haagensen visited 5th October 2011 the Belgium National Road Safety days after invitation by the Belgium Armed Forces. The Road Safety days were organized in a military compound just outside Brussels, and were the first National Road Safety days ever in Belgium.

Mixed experiences with use of simulators

Information given by the Armed Forces in Czech and other participating countries showed both positive and negative experiences with the use of simulators in the education of military drivers. It was underlined that the benefit ofsimulators depends on certain conditions/circumstances. Simulators are no substitute for real vehicle, but is a helpful supplement. In the German Armed Forces simulator added training is well established and approved in basic training for F/G. The presentations will on the web in the near future.
