Good road safety work in Serbian Armed forces

The Serbian Armed Forces has during the last years achieved remarkable results of its road safety work. The accident prevention work has obviously been carried out in a systematic way based on clear strategies. The work has also been done in good and close collaboration with the civilian side and educational institutions on a university level including an internal faculty for road safety.

President Oddvar Haagensen and Policy Secretary Leif Agnar Ellevset were both impressed what they experienced during their participation at the expert conference ”Safety of Military Traffic Participants” at the Military Academy in Belgrade 26th May this year. We will later bring more information about the military road safety work in Serbia

Lithuanian armed forces visited by ECRAF

The Executive Committee has for some time worked to establish contact between the Baltic States and ECRAF. The President was the 5th May invited to meet the Lithuanian Chief of Defence the 5th of May. Unfortunately he had to cancel the meeting himself, but the President meat with his deputy colonel Gediminas Macijauskas.

The meeting was interesting and important. The Colonel was deeply concerned regarding Road Safety in the Lithuanian Armed forces and expressed the importance to achieve results by being member of ECRAF. He promised to discuss the matter with the Chief of Defence. He ended the meeting by expressing the importance of ECRAF, and that he was going to recommend ECRAF to his CHOD.

New Swedish knowledge about crash safety

During the fall 2010 and spring 2011 have The Swedish Armed Forces conducted crash tests in cooperation with a test lab in Sweden. The purpose was to study the effect on the human body when personal equipment e.g. combat wests, bulletproof wests and combat helmets are worn. Initially we can say that the kind and configuration of the passive safety systems are central in the consequences of a crash with protected vehicles.

The European Commission for Road Safety in the Armed Forces (ECRAF) has adopted the vision Zero as guideline for the work on road safety in the Armed Forces.

Vision Zero declares that nobody shall be killed or seriously injured in the road traffic.
