The Strategy- and Action Plan

The ECRAF mission is to collect and exchange knowledge and experience, analyse military road traffic statistics and develop recommendations to improve road safety in the Armed Forces.

The General Assembly in Finland September 2009 approved the new policy document “ECRAF Strategy Plan 2009 – 2012. ECRAF Action Plan 2009 – 2010”.

The Executive Committee has since late 2011 worked to revise the existing documents and presented for the General Assembly 2012 in Spain a draft for Strategy Plan 2013-2017 and Action Plan 2013-2014. The draft was unanimously approved by the General Assembly.

ECRAF has, like many public and civilian road safety institutions, adopted the concept of Vision Zero. ECRAF aspires to be the foremost independent institution recognized across Europe for the best practice within the military environment to prevent road traffic incidents / accidents and injuries whether on operations or off duty.

The four strategies are the following:

  • ECRAF shall develop to be a road safety competence centre for all the European Armed Forces.
  • ECRAF will develop an active and coherent communication strategy within nations.
  • ECRAF will harmonize road safety activities across Armed Forces.
  • ECRAF will develop and build alliances / coalitions and a strong network with important continental and intercontinental stakeholders in the field of road safety.

The new Strategy- and Action Plan has the following content:

  • Introduction
  • Road traffic accidents our biggest threat
  • Visions
  • Values
  • Assumptions
  • Mission
  • Strategies
  • Actions
  • Evaluation.

    Sponsorship

The General Assembly in 2011 approved the introduction of limited banner advertisement at the web and had its first preliminary discussion about promotion at ECRAF congresses and other ECRAF events. It was underlined in the discussion that the introduction of sponsorship must be done gradually. It was also stated that the sponsors will be approved by the Executive Committee.

The General Assembly in 2012 ECRAF decided under certain conditions to open the congress and other relevant events for sponsorship. Actual arenas for sponsorship can for example be exhibitions, possibilities to put information pamphlets etc in the conference folder and to be marketed with logo at the congress webpage with a link to their own homepage. If a sponsor wants to have an exhibition, it shall be separated from the conference hall.

The General Assembly 2012 approved a policy document named “Directive Sponsorship ECRAF which can be read in the following link: ECRAF Sponsorship Directive updated 2014
